OVERVIEW: The USET‑80 is a Soviet/Russian heavyweight, universal electric torpedo introduced in 1980. It is designed for both anti-submarine and anti-surface roles, using acoustic and wake-homing guidance.

DETAILS: USET‑80 (Universalnaya Samonavodyashchayasya Elektricheskaya Torpeda, 1980) was developed by Gidropribor and entered service in 1980 with a follow-up variant, USET‑80K, in 1989. It has a 533 mm diameter, 7.9 m length, and weighs 2,000 kg with a 300 kg warhead. Propelled by an electric motor powered by a sea‑water activated silver‑zinc (later copper‑magnesium in some versions) battery, it reaches speeds up to 50 kn and Kinematic ranges around 25 km. It can operate at depths up to 1,000 m. Guidance is via passive/active acoustic sensors and wake-homing against surface targets; the USET‑80K uses an improved "Keramika" acoustic sensor but lacks wake-homing capability.

FUNCTION: Launched from 533 mm submarine torpedo tubes, it searches for submarine targets using passive/active acoustic homing and tracks surface vessels via wake homing. The 200–300 kg warhead detonates on impact or via magnetic fuse.
